Our curriculum

What your child learns, grade by grade.

The program follows the BC math curriculum from Kindergarten to Grade 9, in 30 short levels. Your child starts at the level the free assessment finds, not a level set by age, and moves up when they're ready.

Many children start below or above their school grade, and that's normal. The first levels are done together with a parent, on short pages, and children take over as they go.

How a level works

  • A workbook every two weeksA new paper workbook arrives in the mail every two weeks, built from your child's last one.
  • About 15 to 30 minutes a day*Five days a week.
  • Shown first, then small stepsEach new idea starts with a worked example. Practice then builds from easy to harder, one small change at a time.
  • Remember these?Every day brings back something learned earlier, so old skills stay fresh.
  • A Fix it boxAnything your child got wrong last time comes back in the next workbook as new questions.
  • Stuck? Talk it throughYour child can call the Unica Teaching Assistant anytime and talk it through out loud. After you scan the day's pages, they try to fix any mistakes first.
  • Adjusts as they goWe look at the pages you scan. The next workbook adds practice where it's needed and new ideas when they're ready.
  • A test to move upA test at the end of each level, done in one sitting, shows when your child is ready for the next one.

*A typical target. Every child works at their own pace, so some days take a little more or less time.
